By conceiving neoliberalism as a form of governing reason, we can understand how it guides individuals as subjects who invest in themselves. But neoliberalism also remakes the state and society. One of its crucial features as a form of reason is its idea of the state as facilitator or sustainer of the economy. Neoliberalism is often understood as anti-statist, but what it opposes is the regulatory state . The state is used all the time to prop up or create markets in certain fields. That is perfectly legitimate in a neoliberal order of things. But it is more a democratized State than a representative State, a State where political equality among citizens is organized in institutions and practices through which we govern ourselves. The State is an administrator of economic life and of what we currently call biopolitical life. Neoliberalism, as in the famous formulation of Margaret Thatcher (paraphrasing Hayek), seeks to disintegrate the notion of society or the social. Thatcher's Fax Number List famous phrase is: "There is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families. In other words, we are reduced to individual units that are not socially connected or connected, either in terms of being accountable to associates or confronting the powers of society (be they the powers of capital, race, gender, and sexuality . There are only individuals, and our freedom lies in being able to do what we want as individuals. There are two important things to say here about the most recent changes. One is the rise of far-right formations and regimes, associated with the likes of Donald Trump, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Narendra Modi, Viktor Orbán, and Jair Bolsonaro. We also see such formations in political parties and mobilizations in both the global North and South, even where they have not achieved the status of ruling regimes.

The situation will be worse if it fails to contain the run and the loan paid by the entire country. This will only fuel capital flight for a short time, making a more intense devaluation of the peso imminent, which will raise inflation and deepen the recession in a scenario of sharp deterioration in real wages. The contemporary right has inherited two seemingly contradictory impulses from the neoliberal era: anti-democratic politics and a libertarian personal ethic. Wendy Brown, author of In the Ruins of Neoliberalism, explains it in this interview What is the right moving towards? Interview with Wendy Brown Much of his recent work has focused on analyzing neoliberalism as a specific form of normative reason and government, an outcome of capitalist modernity that is not reducible to it. What do you think has changed in the neoliberal Fax Number List order since you published Undoing the Demos ? Have the social, ecological and political crises we are currently experiencing made it clearer which elements of social life have been fully integrated into the logic of neoliberalism and which elements have not? We know that neoliberalism has to do with the dismantling of the social state, deregulation, privatization, regressive taxes and suspicion of public goods, in favor of privatized and for-profit business ventures. However, there are two other things I want to mention. Foucault, among others, taught us to think of neoliberalism as something that exceeds a set of policies, rather as a form of governing reason. By that he meant a form of reason that shapes our behavior in all dimensions of life, from education to health care, how we think about leisure, retirement or mere survival. For example, do we understand education as a good aimed at building democracy or as an investment made by an individual to improve their human capital?
